Stacey C Peeples, Curator-Lead Archivist at the Pennsylvania Hospital will present “The Story is in the Art,” a history of the Pennsylvania Hospital through the items on display in the Philadelphia Antiques Show Loan Exhibit. Hear how the objects in the collection illustrate the story of the founding of the Hospital, the evolution of medical care, the negotiations by the Board of Managers to receive Civil War soldiers, and much more. Ms. Peeples, who has overseen the Historic Collections of the Pennsylvania Hospital for eleven years, will also discuss the balance of working in a vibrant medical institution that is also a center of true “living history” whose walls echo with Philadelphia’s past. She will share details about the luminaries who interacted with the hospital, including Benjamin Franklin and Benjamin Rush, and perhaps even a ghost story for the curious.

Tim Hill will present a powerpoint slide show and discussion titled, “The Real and the Imagined – an ongoing dialogue between the parallel worlds of American Folk Art and American Fine Art.” The presentation will illustrate the creative aesthetic and the philosophical meanings that are implied within the dynamic artworks.
The Hill Gallery, directed by Timothy and Pamela Hill has been a public gallery in Birmingham Michigan since 1981, exhibiting Museum level Modern and Contemporary American painting and sculpture as well as exceptional American Folk Art. The Hills are nationally recognized as leaders in these two fields, having exhibited highly selected works throughout the past 30 years. As former teachers, the Hills have long delved into the educational principles, which enable communication in a field where knowledge and visual understanding are essential.
Join us for this third annual event for individuals with a unique style who accessorize and furnish their homes with unusual finds, original creations and distinctive pieces from their travels. Dine with the experts at the annual Award of Merit Dinner hosted by the Antiques Dealers’ Association of America (ADA). Each year, the ADA honors outstanding contributions to the fields of American decorative arts and antiques. The American Folk Art Society is the 2012 recipient of this prestigious award, making this the first time that an organization has been recognized. Established in 1978, the American Folk Art Society has devoted itself to raising awareness of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century American folk art through research and writing, lectures, and the support of public exhibitions.

Arthur Liverant is a third generation antiques dealer and owner of Nathan Liverant and Son, LLC in Colchester Connecticut. A 19-year exhibitor at the Philadelphia Antiques Show, Arthur actively deals in 18th and 19th century American furniture, paintings, glass and related accessories. A veteran of booth talks and museum presentations, he enjoys nothing more than sharing ideas and engaging others in the fine points of American antiques. He will be joined by his associate, Kevin Tulimieri, in an exploration of Regionalism in early American furniture and decorative arts. Using examples from the Nathan Liverant and Son booth, as well as other examples from across the Philadelphia Antiques Show floor, Arthur and Kevin will discuss and illustrate the intriguing world of Regionalism in Americana. Thomas Jayne, one of America’s best decorators and scholars of American design, discusses rooms by collectors and what makes them unique. He presents some exceptional examples from his book The Finest Rooms in America: 50 Influential Interiors from the 18th century to the Present, as well as shares how some of those qualities have inspired him in his own work. This includes looking at how antiques become objects of focus within rooms and studying their different roles in traditional and modern settings.
Set C. Momjian, collector extraordinaire of White House Presidential china, will share his passion for these porcelain pieces that began accidentally in the 1950s. As his collection grew, Momjian came to appreciate the historical significance and beauty of each piece. As he explains, “White House china shows the personal style of each First Lady and they are the only items that remain in the White House to give us a sense of their tastes and the times in which they lived.” Momjian is not simply a collector of objects; he’s a collector of stories.
